Perth is one of the most isolated cities in the world. It’s the
capital of Western Australia and lies on the Swan River. The nearest
major city is Adelaide, located at 2,104 km / 1,307 miles from

Perth is known for its beautiful architecture and natural
parkland - Kings Park which is located in the heart of the city and
overlooking the Swan River and CBD. The beaches attract surfers and
sun-bathers alike- they are very safe, clean and with pristine white
sand. 30 minutes away is the Port City of Fremantle which is the
perfect place to enjoy your coffee or find a bargain at the weekend
markets.
How to get to Perth
Perth has two airports domestic and international flights arrive
at separate airports 10 minutes by car from each other. Taxi's and
airport shuttles are available from all flights. The sea port of
Fremantle is host to the cruise liners who come down under for the
summer season. If you prefer to arrive by train, it takes about 3
days to get from Sydney to Perth crossing the famous Nullarbor
Plain. The city is also linked by railroad to Kalgoorlie Mining
Town and Bunbury Port City.
You can hire a car and travel North to the Ningaloo Reef,
one of the best and most accessible coral reefs in the world.
Further North is very hot and dry - cities include Broome - the
Pearl capital of Australia, the mining towns of Port Hedland and
Karratha, and fishing towns of Geraldton and Exmouth. The
temperatures can reach as high as 50 degrees celsius in the NOrth
West.
If you prefer the trees, head South to some of the Largest
trees in the world. Western Australia has some very unique
hardwood trees and the climate is more temperate reaching 30-35
degrees celsius in the summer and down to zero in the winter. Visti
timber towns like Manjimup, Pemberton and wineries like Margaret
River, Dunsborough, Seaside towns in Augusta, Busselton,
Dunsborough, Bunbury, Albany and further east the beautiful Port
city of Esperance.
Weather
Due to its location, It has been said that Perth enjoys as much
as nine months of sunshine. The summers are hot –and long – with
temperatures reaching 40 degrees celsius between October and April.
The nights are warm and sultry - perfect for having fish and chips
at one of the famous beaches and watching the sun set.
Winters are cold, but for the tourists it’s actually quite warm
getting down to 4degrees celsius overnight and most days mid winter
in the teens.
May to October are the most pleasant times in Perth with the
weather being quite mediterranean. However with the
airconditioning and transport system, a lot of tourists enjoy the
high temperatures of the Summer months by frequenting the beaches
and poolside activities.
What to Do
Right in the middle of the city you will find Kings Park.
It comprises a lovely collection of local flora and offers the
perfect location for bike and walk trails. If you sit on the grass
or benches, you can enjoy the many species of birds. The park is
home to Perth's War Memorial and many playgrounds and areas suitable
for quiet relaxation. Kings Park offers the best views of
Perth and the Swan River. Visit the outdoor theatre in
the summer evenings, showing the latest releases.
West of Perth is the Port City of Fremantle
built by the early convicts, many of the buildings have been
restored and have magnificent architecture. You can check out the
weekend markets or visit the Maritime Museum. The
dock areas are home to the fishing fleet and fresh fish and chips
are the traditional snack when visiting Fremantle. There is a cafe
strip, weekend markets and shopping areas all close by.
When in the City of Perth take time to visit The Perth
Mint, housed in a heritage building in the CBD. It’s the
oldest operating Australian mint and you can take a tour and buy
gold memorabilia. Northbridge is a great place to visit for
a snack or meal and only a five minute walk from the Central Train
Station close to The Art Gallery and Museum.
Perth Zoo and Botanical Garden is popular both
among tourist and locals. Many exotic animals are housed at Perth
Zoo, Evening concerts are a popular attraction and you can
buy a painting done by one of our resident elephants.
While in Perth, take time to visit one of our popular beaches,
Cottesloe, Floreat, Leighton, Port, Scarborough, Swanbourne and
Trigg where surfing is popular. Or you can head north up the coast
to Hilarys and visit the AQUA indoor Aquarium and see most of
the exotic and native species of sea creatures. If you are brave
enough you can swim with the sharks.
